Though not our first Chesapeake ~ Kain was
certainly the beginning of what would become Sandbar Kennels.
Her career in the show ring was brief but impressive. She came to live with our
herd of Rottweilers in 1992 right around her second birthday. She finished her
AKC championship in November of '92 and went on to a very limited owner handled
specials career the following year. In May of '93 Kain joined what was at the
time a very small and elite group of Chesapeakes ~ she became a Sporting Group
Winner. In fact, with that win she became only the 5th bitch in the history of
the breed to win a Sporting Group. She also had the honor of finishing the year
in the breed's top 10.
One of the best things about Kain was her awesome personality. She taught me to
love this wonderful breed. She was charming, engaging and fun. She had a wicked
and twisted sense of humor and she thought she was the "funniest thing on 4
wheels" . If she suspected she was in trouble, being scolded or if you were
having a bad day she'd turn on the charm, put on a HUGE chessie smile and "Roo
Roo" until she talked you out of being mad -- and it always worked no matter how
hard you tried to resist. In addition to an A+ personality she defined type,
soundness and good movement. She shaped my "picture" of what a Chessie should be
and her influence can still be seen in the Sandbar dogs of today.
Kains offspring include
MBIS Ch. Sandbar's Last Laugh "Lilee"
Ch. Sandbar's Cast In Stone "Coy"
Ch. Sandbar's Flashback "Bodi"
